Make ‘Em Pretty!!!!

I’m not going to “talk” too much … I’m going to let the results do the tawking! ๐Ÿ˜€

They started out looking like this:

Cute, but not amazing.

Ready for baking …

All done and air-dried!!!!

Ready for use and as cute as a button.ย  ๐Ÿ˜›ย

ย This was my first time using polymer clay and making handles for my hooks.ย  I used this tutorial and couldn’t be more happy with the results.ย  ๐Ÿ˜€ย  I’m still tossing up if I should glaze them or not. ๐Ÿ’ก

I should hook a carrying case for them.ย  Hmmm …

The handles will help to alleviate the hand cramp I’ve been told is attributed to the early development of arthritis (but I’m refusing to accept that).

Aren’t they pretty?!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

ETA: It’s Friday … I didn’t make anything new this week, but go over to Tami’s to see who’s finished new stuff!!!ย  You know you want toย  ๐Ÿ˜›

Your hooks came out very pretty – love the colors. Thanks for the link to my blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

In reference to the glazing – I found with the first hook I made and glazed that after I was crocheting for a while, the hook felt a little sticky in my hand. I peeled off the glaze from that hook and haven’t glazed any other hook since and they’re all still looking brand new.

I was more than happy to credit you for your work, so thank you for creating such a super easy tutorial. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks also for this feedback. I still haven’t glazed and didn’t plan to since I’ve been using the hooks and other than one bead falling out, they’re still in pretty good condition.

Hi Nicky and thanks for visiting my blog. You did an awesome job making your own ergonomic hooks. I must try it, I have been experiencing discomfort while crocheting and thinking I need to switch to ergonomic hooks. However, I couldn’t bring myself to buy any, especially when I’ve accumulated so many hooks over the last 20+ years.

Thanks for dropping by Shelia. ๐Ÿ˜€ You should try it, the tutorial was super easy and the changes on the hooks have really helped.

Love these Nicky! Lilac is one of my favorite colors. It is wonderful when experiments yield great results. Looking forward to seeing more of your efforts.

Any shade of purple is great to me. ๐Ÿ˜€ Great to have you stop by.

That looks so much fun! I love how colourful your hooks are too. I hope they do help with your hand cramps

Love these! They are pretty and practical. I recently upgraded my hooks to ones with bamboo handles because of cramping issues. Yours are so much lovelier, though.

Ooh, now that’s a tempting prospect! Your hooks look awesome—really pretty and like they’d be comfy to hold. I’m glad the tutorial worked out for you, and I hope the hooks will be easier on your hands now. ๐Ÿ™‚

What a great idea! Better for your hands & prettier!

These look amazing. What a cool idea. All of my needles are wood so far not sure they’d survive the oven lol.

LOLOLOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I don’t think so and I’m sure they must be beautiful already.

One of these days, I need to try to crochet with a fat hook, to see if I like it, or see if I think it really helps. Have had arthritis for a good number of years, some carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve damage. I just use those light weight Susan Bates plastic hooks…have you used the fat ones with handles previously before you made these cute ones? Did you really feel like they helped?

    • Nicky February 25, 2012 / 7:49 pm

      Hey Sandy,

      Thanks for dropping by.

I did use the fat hooks with handles before I made mine and it was much less painful on my hands. I’m naturally a tight hooker and knitter so I’m glad I made the handles.

These are really cute! I never would have thought of that. Did you decide to glaze them?

    • Nicky February 25, 2012 / 7:50 pm

I haven’t glazed them yet. I’m still researching the glaze/buffing options. Right now, I’m just going to go ahead and use them as is. ๐Ÿ˜€
